Geological Fakes Workshop - fake, forged or the real deal?
This workshop aims to given people who work with geological materials the basic skills and techniques to differentiate between commonly faked or modified geological objects – specifically minerals, meteorites, gems, amber and fossils. Attendees will be organised into 5 small groups which will spend just over an hour on each topic. The workshop will held in the recently built, state of the art facilities at the National Museum Collection Centre in north Edinburgh. Each session will involve a short lecture followed by a period of hands-on examining real specimens using microscopes and other equipment. Coffees and lunch will be provided.
A map and further details of the National Museum Collection Centre are available here. Regular public transport runs nearby - see https://www.lothianbuses.com/
