Joint HoGG/GCG meeting: The History of Geological Discovery in Polar Regions
Tuesday 16 July & Wednesday 17 July, Cambridge (joint meeting with HOGG - History of Geology Group).
Day 1 (16th) is a day conference at the British Antarctic Survey Headquarters, with papers on geological discovery in both north and south polar regions.
Day 2 (17th) will include visits to polar archives of geological material at the Sedgwick Museum, and Scott Polar Research Institute.
Member fee = £30 conference + £5 Visits day (see instructions below). It is possible to register for the conference day only.
Conference day (16th) includes refreshments/buffet lunch & soft drinks and abstracts booklet. No refreshments can be provided on 17th as the visits are mostly self-led.
The meeting aims to explore aspects of geological discoveries in the polar regions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is planned to arrange participation for both days or one day only. Participants will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements.

Registration instructions - simple step-by-step guide:
- Read the event outline then click the the Register button (top right).
- When the window pops up the subtotal will show , enter 1 and click Next. Don't worry about the any Subtotal - this will change when you have entered the Member admission code at the next step (to the GCG member fee rate)
- In the pop-up order window click Do you have a promo code?
- Copy and paste the GCG member code for the event into the box and click Apply - please note the code is case-sensitive. The order total will automatically change and you will see a green code acceptance banner.
- Enter your name and email address and click Next
- For conferences/symposia payment options will be shown - 1. Payment by Debit/credit card (preferably paid via the secure Link option), 2. Payment by Bank Transfer (at bottom of page).
HOGG's preferred method is by Bank Transfer (BACS), as this incurs lower fee costs, but please choose whichever is more convenient. If you choose BACS you will receive a pending admission ticket, which will be validated on receipt of the fee transfer in the HOGG Bank account.
